Mr Swagman Shelta 270 awning.
Take Shelta from the sun.
Take Shelta from the rain.
Take Shelta from the wind.
Take Shelta from the elements with Mr Swagman’s Shelta 270 awning, manufactured from 280gsm ripstop polycotton canvas, with a heavy duty PVC zip up cover.
Featuring a 2.5 meter long base along the side of your vehicle, Mr Swagman’s Shelta 270 degree awning pivots from a unique hinge system to allow a quick and easy, one-man deployment within seconds.
Once the heavy-duty PVC cover has been un-zipped and the triple retaining straps released, it’s then just a simple walk around your vehicle to then lash the cam buckled strap to hold the free standing Shelta open.
No pegs, no poles, no ropes – simple!
Mr Swagman’s Shelta 270 awning comes complete with one attached, drop-down pole, plus three extra slot-in poles that can be used in adverse conditions.
Noting that the poles are never needed to aid in holding the Mr Swagman Shelta awning up – it is totally self-standing. Rather, the poles are used for holding the awning down during windy conditions. Yep, your awning will act like a huge parachute and catch the breeze, so you will need to exercise caution to ensure your awning doesn’t flip over your vehicle in the wind. The windier it is, the more poles you should use to hold your awning down.
Each pole incorporates flip-out feet with dual peg down holes, in which you insert the included pegs. This double pegging method provides a great purchase point for keeping the poles down on the ground, negating the need for trip-hazard guy ropes. Hammer-in pegs are supplied, although screw-in pegs can be used if needed for an even great hold-down system.
Tie down tags are also included as standard between each pole and arm, should you feel the need for extra security during adverse conditions.
Three fold-up vertical props are included on the horizontal arms to aid in water run-off from the Shelta awning. These props are simply deployed once the awning has been opened and folded down prior to pack up.
An innovative magnetic weather flap is included in the canvas awning that goes across the rear of your vehicle to help prevent sun, rain and wind from entering your shaded area. This canvas weather flap will shape to most vehicles roof line to allow the sewn-in magnets to attach and create the weather seal. Obviously, those with non-ferromagnetic metals (alloy, plastic, fiberglass, etc…) roofs or canopies, you’ll need to attach a stick-on magnetic strip (not included) for the system to work.
An optional extra is a six-piece wall kit that zips and velcro’s into position to create a semi-enclosed area ideal for camping under or using to help block rain, wind and sun. Each wall can be used individually or with one, two or all other walls attached – the choice is yours as to how many walls you use each time. As well as zipping and velcroing to the Mr Swagman Shelta 270 awning, each wall zips to the wall next to it for a sturdy attachment system, so no guessing the alignment like with a Velcro-only system.
We supply three L-brackets and hardware for fitting to your vehicles roof rack. We have tried to cater for most roof racks, but you may have to supply additional hardware to fit to your individual rack system.
We suggest two of the brackets get fitted to the rear of the vehicle (closest to the awning hinge which is where most pressure and twisting action occurs) and the third bracket towards the front of the awning. Like all 270 degree awnings, the twisting at the pivot point is higher than the front of the awning, so care must be taken to ensure an adequate roof rack system is used.
Fitting a Mr Swagman Shelta awning is a two person job and you will have to ensure correct fitment to not foul on other vehicle parts.
Once fitted, it’s an easy one person job to set up and pack away as needed.
Mr Swagman takes no responsibility for incorrect fitting or subsequent damage to any vehicle.
