Canvas Bag Awning
Having a Mr Swagman canvas awning attached to the side of your 4WD, campervan, caravan, horse float, camper trailer or any other type of trailer is a great way to have a quick and easy shade set up – shade from the sun or rain.
Mr Swagman’s canvas awnings allow your shade to be set up within a few minutes with just 2 pegs, 2 poles and 2 ropes and no fancy clips, rollers, or hinges to break.
Both vertical poles are high quality aluminium twist lock poles and the sewn in
spreader bar that runs front to rear in the awning is a strong galvanised pole.
Mr Swagman’s awnings offer one of the largest shade areas available and come standard with a multi-use canvas wall section that can be quickly and easily moved to any of the three sides of your awning via the standard sewn-in zips. The ability to move this section of canvas allows you to block rain or sun (regardless of which angle or direction it may be coming down), or can be used as an extra large roof section to add to the main awning (extra poles, ropes and pegs are required for this).
Mr Swagman’s awning measures 2.5m long (from front to rear of your 4WD or trailer) and 2.5m wide (out from your 4WD or trailer). To this main awning is zipped an extra moveable section of canvas that measures 2.5m long by 2.0 wide - it can be attached to any three sides (front, rear or outside edge) and can either drop straight down to the ground (a 2.0m drop), out at an angle or held up horizontal as a roof*, or you can unzip it and not use it.
The complete awning kit with all pegs, poles, ropes and extra canvas wall will all roll up into the PVC bag.
The versatility of Mr Swagman’s awning allows many uses and will be one of the most often used pieces of equipment at your campsite.
Why use canvas over any other material for an awning?
- Stand under a thin plastic sheet, a nylon sheet or most other thin sheet material and feel how much heat comes though from the sun - a canvas awning will not allow anywhere near as much heat transfer, which will keep you much cooler in the heat.
- Thin plastic sheets, nylon sheets and most other thin material sheets rustle in the wind making a terrible noise – a good canvas awning will be almost silent.
- Thin plastic sheets, nylon sheets and most other thin material sheets will tear at the eyelets sooner rather than later – a good canvas awning will last far longer.
- Thin plastic sheets, nylon sheets and most other thin material sheets are far from durable – a good canvas awning will take years of abuse without damage.
The standard Mr Swagman bag awning kit includes:
- One 2.5m long 10 ounce canvas awning that reaches out from the vehicle 2.5m
(that's a coverage of 6.25m²).
- One 2.5m X 2.0m 10 ounce canvas wall that can be attached to any of the three
sides of the main awning (that's an extra coverage of 5.0m² making a total
possible of 11.25m²).
- Two vertical aluminium twist lock poles.
- One horizontal sewn-in galvanised spreader bar (makes setting up and packing
up very easy).
- Two pegs.
- Two spring loaded guy ropes.
- One 2.5m length of aluminium sail tracking (attaches to your vehicle, caravan,
horse float or trailer).
- One PVC bag (with sewn in rope guide) that will carry all the above.
- Three Velcro securing straps sewn inside the PVC bag to hold the rolled
awning and poles firmly in place.
How do you fit a Mr Swagman bag awning?
The PVC carry bag has a removable aluminium sail tracking that is attached to your vehicle, caravan, horse float or trailer with either pop rivets or nuts and bolts (not supplied).
Depending on your type of roof rack or specific arrangements of your van or trailer, you may have to attach the aluminium sail tracking first to a rigid length of tube (box or round section – not supplied) to ensure the mounting is adequate.
Once the aluminium sail track is mounted, the complete PVC bag and all contents simply slide on (when you want it) and off (when you want it left at home or don’t want to drive around with it attached).
